We all have shiny dreams, great goals, and we thrive to be great, to be the best versions of ourselves, that’s all good and important. Yet sometimes we get sucked into the productivity hole, that we forget that we are the Gem, we are good enough in Here & Now, sometimes we even lose touch with ourselves, our hearts, our soul.
The goals are a means for us to improve and when achieved for us to feel certain emotions, and we look forward to feel and experience the sparkly and great future where we are successeful, we wait for that day, yet we forget that we only exist in Here & Now.
After a loopwhole of trying to be productive, to achieve certain goals and my burnout, I stopped everything. I paused to reconnect with my authentic self. fortunately it was the summer vacation. I took that period of time, not really intentionally, to isolate, to cry, to embrace myself, to be honest with myself.
Let me tell you a bit about Honesty. I still remember one night, where I admitted to myself that the strongest motive behind me pursuing a certain goal is fear of financial insecurity, specifically, fear of asking my father for money. I always tried to polish my goals and convince myself that I was pursuing them for myself, for me to thrive. but in that moment when I imagined myself who embodies that fear, went to her, hugged her, cried with her, apologized to her for denying her and fearing her as if she’s a monster, a threat or a shame. I accepted her, I embraced her, I acknowledged her and told her that I understand you, we can work through this together, I didn’t feel like I have to get rid of this fearful part of me. those moments were the most genuine, the most beautiful and it felt so so safe to be who I am. I allowed myself to put my guard down.
Acceptance isn’t surrendering, acceptance has so much to do with love, respect, and encouragement, in a way I am in peace with every part of me. when I accepted I didn’t have to fight myself, I didn’t have to eradicate anything just to get rid of it because deeply I don’t know how to deal with it. It’s allowing myself to feel all emotions, high and low, with least resistance to not turn it into suffering. It’s feeling safe to be who I am.
I accepted myself here and now. and I tell every part of me, that we can work through this together, not having to fight each other, even if I don’t really know how to deal with it at the moment.
So I start with openness to experience life, I set Intentions for these parts of me, and I try to stay aware as much as possible, to observe how these parts of me approach life, to be self-compassionate; towards them, to allow them to exist and show up as daily experiences trigger them. when we set an intention, we can observe and understand better why situations happen and the emotions and feelings they induce.
For example, if I intend to be authentic, situations happen for me to start learning how to be authentic and express myself and my boundaries, I just need to act on it, to be a bit more courageous, by keeping in mind that every situation is serving me. Intentions are powerful to focus our attention and to live more intentionally and mindfully.
As I was developping this template, which was a journey of a month of user experience (till today as I am telling you this), of solving my own problems and coming up with better systems to manage parts of my life, I set the Intentions database. so You can choose an intention every month, depending on your current experiences and challenges. Additionally, on the morning journal & daily plan page you can set other intentions about how you want to approach today’s experience and what you intend to do. Intentions are broad and not measurable, so we can say they are broader than goals.
